Alisa is 7 now and was diagnosed with Perthes at 6. What stands out to me most about the past year is pain. Ultimately, that’s how we found out Alisa had Perthes. She was complaining off and on about pain in her leg. She was an active child so we weren’t immediately concerned. But the pain kept returning. It seemed more than growing pains. After a while my husband noticed she would limp in the evenings.

That’s how Alisa’s story began. Now, the daytime pain is very manageable. We use Motrin when needed and make sure to give it at the first sign of pain and stay on it for a day or two. Her pain is very manageable if noticed and addressed early. Nighttime pain is still her toughest especially after a day of activity. We’ve modified our nighttime routine to include a warm bath and stretching and even an app for guided relaxation which really seems to help!
